Khotyn
Khotyn, one of the oldest towns of the region, spreads over the steep and picturesque banks of the river Dnister. When visiting the town you find yourself as if in the Middle Ages: Khotyn fortress built at the same time as "The Tale of Ihor March" was written is the witness of the victorious glory of Ukrainian kozaks. This unique building meets you on the very outskirts. One of the Ukrainian historical songs sings of Khotyn as "the glorious town famous all over the world". The stone walls of the old fortress remember the clank of sabres of the kozaks lead by Petro Sahaidachnyi and Bohdan Khmelnytskyi. A lot of famous personalities contributed to the history of Khotyn, among them Mikhail Lomonosov, Vasiliy Dokuchaev, David Guramishvili, Alexander Afanasyev-Chuzhbinskiy, French engineer Guillaume-Levasser de Boplan, and Moldavian artists Myron Kostin and Alexander Hizhdeu.
